The Building Administration Chapter of the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA) is proud to host its first-ever Building Administration Learning Forum, a one-day event created specifically for building administration professionals across Ontario.This forum is designed with you in mind. It will feature four focused learning sessions that speak directly to the day-to-day realities of building administration, offering practical insights, shared experiences, and opportunities to strengthen your knowledge and skills in a supportive learning environment. Take advantage of this excellent learning opportunity in-person or virtually.

Building Code 101
This session will look at navigating Division C, introduce building administrators to the Building Code Act and Ontario Building Code, focusing on its organization, application, compliance methods, and key administrative provisions. It provides practical guidance on when and how to apply the OBC to ensure effective permit coordination, assisting over the counter and resident inquires.

Risk Management Tips for Municipal Building Departments
Alison Orr, Professional Engineer, designated Consulting Engineer, and Certified Building Code Official, with Orr Brown Consulting Engineers Ltd., will bring you up to date on the latest claims against Municipalities, highlight red flags, and provide risk management tips for Building Departments, highlighting issues for those in administrative roles. ​

Planning and Zoning 101
This session provides an overview of the Planning Department’s role and its partnership with the Building Department, focusing on zoning reviews, planning applications involved in the permit process, and the timelines that affect approvals. Participants will gain insight into how Ontario’s Planning Act sets the framework for municipal zoning by-laws, how zoning is applied to properties, and what building permit coordinators should know to streamline coordination and avoid delays.

This session will bring together a panel of building officials who will share the diverse paths that led them to their current roles.
